platypusenglish13-normal.jpg

Place front and back pieces together, wrong sides facing. Join color A with sl st to tail as shown in picture. Working through both pieces sc around the potholder. Switch to color B for the bill part. Join to 1st sc with sl st, sl st in next sc, make a hanging loop by chaining 6, skip 4 sc, sl st in next 2 sc. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Feet

I positioned the feet so that there is 8 stitches between the bill and front foot, and 8 stitches between two feet. (Adjust the positioning if needed.)

Row 1: Front side of the potholder up, join yarn to body with sl st. 1 sc in the same st as joining and next 4 sts, ch 1, turn. (5)

Row 5:  1 sc, 2 dc in next st, 2 sc, 3 dc in next st, 2 sc, 2 dc in next st, 1 sc.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Eyes (make 2)

With white yarn

Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6)

Round 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12)

Round 3: [1 sc, 2 sc in next st] x6. (18)

Sl st in next 2 sts. Fasten off. Leave long enough yarn for sewing the eye to the body.

Make the pupil with black yarn: 6 sc in magic ring, join with sl st. (6)  Fasten off.

Sew pupil to the white part of eye. Sew the eyes to the body.

You can also make the eye as one piece. Work round 1 with black and rounds 2-3 with white. Join all rounds with sl st.
